YEAR 7 ADMISSIONS

The school admits into Year 7 five forms of approximately 30 pupils each year. All candidates must pass the entrance test taken in September in order to be eligible for a place at the school. The entrance examination comprises an English test and a Mathematics test. The school is very heavily oversubscribed and so it is not possible to offer a place to all boys who pass the test.

Wilson’s is a grammar school and so it is appropriate that all places are allocated on the basis of academic ability. Places at the school are allocated on the basis of the rank order of the examination. Following the introduction of the new statutory code of practice for admissions, the school regrets that it is no longer permitted to give any advantage to brothers of pupils already at the school.

There is no catchment area for the school and as long as pupils are able to travel with ease to school there is no reason why they should not apply.

The school participates in the Coordinated Admissions arrangements of Sutton Local Authority. Parents need to complete the Common Application Form that they obtain from their home Local Authority (this is also returned to the home Local Authority) as well as the school’s Supplementary Form, which is returned to us, and which ensures that your son is entered for the entrance examination.

Parents have a statutory right of appeal against the Governors’ decision not to award a place at school. Appeal hearings, which are independent of the school, are usually heard in May.
