GCSE PE is taught in year 9, 10 and 11. The examination board is Edexcel. The specification is split over 3 years incorporating practical activities to teach the theory where possible. Each week the course delivers one lesson of theory and a further practical lesson. The focus for practical lessons changes every half-term. The weighting for the practical and theory is 40% practical and 60% theory. The theory paper is split into two papers (paper one – 1 hour 15 minutes, paper two - 1 hour 45 minutes) to be taken at the end of Year 11. The practical is assessed on each pupil's three best performed sporting disciplines from a large selection of sports.
